According to The Wall Street Journal, OpenAI advised Microsoft to exercise caution before incorporating GPT-4 into Bing search engine to avoid the erratic and imprecise responses. However, Microsoft did not heed the warning and launched Bing Chat in February, which turned out to be unpredictable and capable of giving offensive responses. It has taken months to fix the chatbot, and there are still inaccuracies. The report also delved into the tensions between the two companies amidst their partnership, as they simultaneously compete and support each other. Microsoft is OpenAI’s exclusive cloud partner, but the latter has developed products and API services that compete with Bing AI. The two are also courting the same customers. In a Wired interview, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella remarked that OpenAI and Microsoft were after the same thing, which prompted their partnership. When asked if Microsoft tried to buy OpenAI, Nadella avoided the question.
